Asian Games’ medallist left in lurch

While every effort is needed to be taken towards encouraging the talent in sports, especially those sports persons who bring laurels to the country , it is lamentable that a Wushu player who won a bronze medal in Asian Games in 2018 and promised with a Government job continues to be waiting for the decision actually taken by the UT Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
It may be recalled that the said player Surya BhanuPratap Singh, son of the soil , was duly felicitated by the then Governor, Satya Pal Malik in a function and given a cash prize of Rs.10 lakh as also Rs.2 lakh to his coach in recognition of an outstanding performance in the Asian Games. This achievement is the first one achieved by any player from Jammu and Kashmir . The Governor, however, had promised Surya Bhanu with a Dy.Superintendent’s post in Police Department and his coach next promotion in J&K Police but till date, no orders have been issued. It is astonishing that like Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh there are many players who despite promises of Government jobs, have been left in the lurch. The Government must address the problem at an early date.
