JAMMU, Apr 4: Ashwani Kumar, Jammu Bureau Chief, Aaj Tak was tonight elected as new president of Press Club of Jammu
Entire team of 11 members including seven Executive Members headed by Ashwani Kumar and supported by outgoing president Manu Shrivatsa swept the elections with impressive margins.
Returning Officer, BS Slathia announced the results at the midnight tonight after completion of counting of 723 votes out of total 885 votes.
Manu Shrivatsa, who headed the Press Club of Jammu for two consecutive terms, extended best wishes to the new team and hoped that they would take the Club to further heights.
Ashwani Kumar polled 383 votes for the post of president while Sohail Kazmi, Editor-in-Chief Taskeen Group, got 340 votes.
Abhimanyu Sharma, Bureau Chief Jammu, Dainik Jagran was elected as Vice President of the Club polling highest number of 475 votes as against 157 secured by Arun Sharma, Resident Editor, Jammu, The Indian Express. Ravinder Singh polled 52 and MK Bangroo, former Bureau Chief Jammu, Press Trust of India (PTI) got 25 votes.
Zorawar Singh has been elected as new Secretary General of the Press Club. He secured 370 votes as against 313 polled by Raju Kerni, Bureau Chief Zee News. Ritesh Kapoor got 24 votes.
Dinesh Manhotra, Special Correspondent, The Tribune, was elected as Treasurer polling 438 votes. Bharat Bushan took 241 votes and Ajay Langar 30.
Seven members were elected to the Executive Committee.
Nishikant Khajuria, Special Correspondent, Daily Excelsior polled highest number of 439 votes among the Executive Members to top the tally.
Six other members elected to the Executive Committee included Dinesh Mahajan of Dainik Jagran with 397 votes, Pawan Sharma, Bureau Chief IBN7 (389), Vishal Bharti, Bureau Chief UNI (364), Deepak Khajuria, Bureau Chief, Focus TV (324), Ajay Bachloo, Bureau Chief ABP News Channel (322) and Surjeet Singh (295).
Earlier in the day, 723 voting right members of the Press Club out of a total of 885 cast their votes from 11 am to 5 pm. The voting was held in peaceful atmosphere.
