JAIPUR, Dec 3: Following the debacle of the ruling Congress, which failed to repeat its performance in 2018 assembly elections, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot met Governor Kalraj Mishra and tendered his resignation on Sunday, sources in Raj Bhawan said here.
Sources said that Gehlot reached the Governor’s residence in the evening and submitted his resignation.
Notably, the Congress, which won 100 seats in the last assembly elections, failed to reach the magic mark this time. Many of its sitting MLAs and ministers lost the polls, which was heavily dominated by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and saw the emergence of Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP).
In fact, the guarantees given by Congress ahead of the Rajasthan polls failed to tilt the balance in favour of the grand old party. (UNI)
