RAJOURI, Sept 26: Asha workers of district Rajouri have opened a front against the government to get their pending demands fulfilled.
Under the banner of Asha Workers Union, Asha workers from various blocks of district Rajouri gathered in the Children Park of Rajori and strated massive protest demonstration. They raised loud slogans in support of their demands. They were speaking on the discrepancies in the salary of the Asha workers.
They pointed out that in states/UTs like Puducherry, Haryana, Kerala, Telangana and Gujarat, Asha workers get a salary of Rs 10,000 per month, whereas in Jammu and Kashmir only Rs 2000 is being given to them. They demanded that the minimum pay scale of the Asha Workers should be Rs 26000 per month.
Asha workers are contributing to important health projects. Their honorarium should be increased every year. Apart from this, all allowances and social security provisions should be accorded to them. The Asha workers had made important contribution during the Covid-19 period but the Government has not acknowledged their contribution.
Expressing anger, they said that there are about 13,000 Asha workers in the public health system of Jammu and Kashmir and many have sacrificed their lives in the fight against Covid, but the Government is not concerned about them and they are forced to resort to protests.
