JAMMU, Jan 9: Principal Secretary Higher Education, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, today convened a meeting with the English faculty of the state colleges in connection with the publication of maiden issue of ‘The Fountain Pen’, Department’s Journal of English.
The faculty from various Colleges participated in the meeting and discussed the future course of action regarding promotion of quality research among students, young scholars and serving faculty in the universities and Colleges of the State.
It was informed that the aim of the Journal is to provide an intellectual platform to teachers, scholars as well as the students of English and English Literature so that they could project their research on an international platform. The Journal would open up alternative horizons, promote engagement with a broader spread of disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches, encourage theoretical and conceptual innovation and provide a venue for the emergence of new concepts and perspectives that benefit the potential readers as well as the actual teaching practices adopted in the Colleges.
With this aim, the journal would cover all topics related to English and English Literature including the vernacular literature produced in our state that is available in English translation. The journal proposes to do this within a dynamic setting that embraces the globalised context of English and English Literature, which is the basic vision and mission of the Higher Education Department.
During the meeting, several decisions regarding the publication of the Journal were taken including constitution of its Advisory Board consisting of eight senior faculty members of the State colleges, and Editorial Board of 13 faculty members. The first issue of the journal shall be made public in the month of March 2018.
