JAMMU, Aug 10: Alleging that the Chenab Valley is facing unemployment challenges, Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) senior leader and ex-MLC Syed Asgar Ali appealed to the Government to ensure local educated and skilled youth should be provided employment opportunities in power projects of Chenab Valley.
Addressing a party function here, today the former MLC said that even as the region has six power projects, the local youth still face selective approaches in providing employment opportunities to the people.
“The locals are not getting a fair chance to get employment in these power projects of Chenab Valley. Shockingly, non-residents of Jammu and Kashmir are being preferred over the locals which has given rise to the unemployment among the educated youth,” said Asgar Ali.
Former Minister, Mohammed Dilawar Mir, Ex-MLC Vijay Bakaya, Ex-MLA Yawar Mir, Trade Union Leader Ajaz Kazmi and others were present on the occasion.
Expressing concern, Ali alleged that “Recruitment process should be rationalized while preferring local youth. However, with the intervention of politicians and bureaucrats, a selective selection process is being adopted and genuine youth are being neglected”, he added.
The Chenab Valley is facing challenges of unemployment in recent years, he alleged. He demanded that the Government should ensure that the employment should equally be given to the people in these companies.
“Chenab Valley has the richest natural resources. More than twenty thousand megawatts hydro-electric power potential is estimated to be available in the region, with almost six power projects either coming up or already built,” said Ex-MLC.
“Chenab Valley has huge forest resources and mineral wealth, including the world famous Sapphire of Padder in Kishtwar. The tourism potential, both religious and conventional scope is tremendous,” he said expressing hope with the new Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha that he will personally look into the issues of the Chenab Valley for their redressal at the earliest.
During the function organised by the JKAP at their Jammu office, PDP’s youth general secretary, Malik Mohammed Umar Malik alongwith a dozen youth joined the Apni Party.  The other party leaders who were present on the occasion include Abhinav Mattoo, Yasir Mir, Abhay Bakaya, Sahil Wazir, Joginder Singh, Gourav Kapoor etc.
