Asaram aide Shipli surrenders before court

JODHPUR, Sept 25:  Controversial self-style godman Asaram’s  aide and warden of his Chidwara gurukul ashram Shilpi today surrendered before a local court here soon after her anticipatory bail plea rejected by the Rajasthan High Court.

Shilpi, who is believed to have sent the victim to Asaram in the Manai ashram, is a co-accused in the case of sexual assault  by main accused Asaram on the girl, a student of their ashram school in Chidwara.

Shilpi was wanted by the police for more than a month but was not traceable.

Then she had moved an application for anticipatory bail before the District and Session Judge (Jodhpur Rural) that was rejected and subsequently she approached to the High Court with the same prayer.

Earlier today, the High Court denied anticipatory bail leaving no recourse for her but to surrender, hence she surrendered before the District and Session court.

Asaram had allegedly sexually assaulted the 16-year-old girl  at his Manai Ashram on August 15 night.

The preacher and one of his aides are presently in judicial custody at the Central Jail until September 30.

Bail application for the ‘sant’ is pending before the High Court that is listed for hearing on October 1.

Senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani had already argued before the court for his release on bail.
