BARAMULLA, May 1: In a bid to enhance road safety and enforce traffic discipline, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Baramulla, Mohammad Mukhtar Sofi today led a robust enforcement drive along the busy Baramulla-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44).
The operation targeted traffic violations, particularly in high-density and vulnerable zones.
During the drive, the enforcement team issued 24 e-challans and served five show-cause notices to drivers and vehicle owners for serious breaches of road safety regulations.
Special focus was placed on school buses, two-wheelers and commercial vehicles.
Violations ranged from helmetless riding and unauthorized vehicle modifications to lack of valid fitness certificates, missing speed limiting devices and non-compliance with seat belt requirements.
Speaking on the occasion, ARTO Mohammad Mukhtar Sofi underlined the dual purpose of the drive.
“The goal is not just punitive action but also to educate the public about traffic rules and the importance of compliance to prevent accidents,” he said.
He reaffirmed the Transport Department’s commitment to public welfare and assured that such drives will continue regularly.
The department has urged all road users to strictly adhere to traffic laws and extend full cooperation to enforcement authorities to help build a safer road environment in the district.
