RAMBAN, June 4: The Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Ramban, has disqualified 15 Driving Licence (DL) holders for three months for committing serious violations of Motor Vehicles Act.
In an Order the ARTO Ramban stated that the action has been taken under Section 19 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, read with Rule 21 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1991.
The decision follows recommendations made by officials of the Motor Vehicles Department, Traffic Police and other enforcing agencies under Section 206(4) of the Act.
The Order stated that Show Cause notices were served to the concerned licence holders, giving them an opportunity to present their defence but they failed to respond within the stipulated period after which the Licensing Authority proceeded with disqualification in compliance with legal provisions and directives of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety.
The violations cited included driving uninsured vehicles, unauthorized alterations, operating vehicles without valid fitness certificates or permits, overloading goods and passengers, breach of permit conditions, disobedience of lawful directions by authorities, driving defective vehicles in public places, riding without a helmet and refusal by a TSR driver.
