JAMMU, Jan 27: People associated with various organizations of art and culture have expressed strong resentment over the denial of award even posthumously to Vijay Malla a legendry ghazal singer from the State, who expired over a year back. They accused the Government of not keeping the promise made by Union Minister and NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah and other senior leaders of the party and those in Government in this regard.
In a meeting which was organised by Shuhul Arts Foundation and Research (SAFR) under the chairmanship of Kuldeep Saproo a strong resentment was expressed over the Government attitude towards this highly acclaimed singer whose contribution in the field of art, culture and music can’t be ignored.
Mr Malla deserved Padam Shree Award during his life time but he was ignored, said Saproo, adding this time they were hopeful that Government will announce the award posthumously for this legendary who had a mesmerizing voice as was promised to the to representatives of art associations by Dr Abdullah and others in the Government but they were shocked when they could not find his name among the artists of the State who were selected for these prestigious awards.
He said it is unfortunate that this music maestro was not even considered for the State award. This shows that Vijay was not a right choice for those who are at helm of affairs and were hell bent to discourage the people associated with art.
JK Bezan a prominent artists and writer who also addressed the meeting expressed his anguish and displeasure over ignoring Mr Malla by the Government from time to time. “Award is not any great thing for a talented person like Malla but to honour an artists means to give him respect and acclaim” he added.
