Artillery guns

Sir,
The acquisition of  howitzers guns from America will give Indian armed forces the required capability to meet the emerging security challenge at borders. At a time when security situation is changing fast at LoC and ALC, it is necessary that our armed forces are fully equipped. It is almost 30 years after Bofors scandal unfolded in the late 1980s that India received artillery guns in 30 years. The two M777s that arrived in New Delhi are part of a $750 million contract with the US for 145 ultra-light howitzers.
It may be mentioned here that Pakistan with the assistance of China is equipping its army with sophisticated weapons to enable it take on India. Not only Army, even Indian Air Force (IAF) is facing shortage of fighter aircrafts. It is reported that India struggles to beef  up its fighter aircraft fleet which has shrunk due to non-induction of modern aircrafts. Though efforts are made to replenish the aging aircrafts with new ones but the process seems  slow.
It is need of the hour that the Government meets the needs of its Army, Navy and Air forces at the earliest. There should be no compromise on it.
Yours etc…
