Sir,
This has reference to the write up titled”Articles 370 and 35-A stay or not, J&K stays in India” published in DE dated April 15 2019.
The author clearly explains the relationship between Union Government and J&K State. Art 370 is a special status given to J&K state after its accession with India. After going through the write up one can conclude that J&K cannot secede from India at any cost. The hard reality is that common masses are unaware about Art. 370 and 35-A. Art. 35-A provides for certain benefits to be given to the citizens of J&K only like citizenship, property, scholarships, Government jobs etc. It is pertinent to mention here that Art. 370 is mentioned both in Indian constitution and J&K Constitution. To abrogate it fully is a herculean task. It can be easily removed from Indian Constitution by a presidential order but it can be abrogated from J&K Constitution by 2/3rd majority which seems to be quite difficult as mainstream politicians of J&K are in no mood to abrogate it. Now a days Art. 370 and 35-A are great tools in the hands of politicians both at the center and state levels to do the cheap vote bank politics. They better know how to befool common people in the name of Art 370 and 35-A.
