PATNA:Amid unprecedented security arrangements, an estimated 10 per cent of the 8.58 million electorate cast their votes in the first two hours of balloting in 32 assembly constituencies in central and southwest Bihar today.
Voters queued up at several polling stations across the 32 constituencies spread over six maoist dominated districts before the start of the polling which began at 0700 hrs in Aurangabad, Rohtas, Kaimur, Jehanabad, Arwal and Gaya districts. According to election office here, Rohtas had recorded 12.87 per cent turnout followed by 12.20 in Jehanabd, 12.05 in Kaimur 10,20 in Aurangabad, 9.51 in Arwal and 8.73 in Gaya. State Director General of Police P K Thakur said polling was taking place in a peaceful manner in all the constituencies and there were no reports of violence so far. A Gaya report said a CRPF jawan died of cardiac arrest in the wee hours in Imamganj assembly constituency in Gaya district. The Jawan identified as Harishchandra Gujjar was a resident of Bhind district in Madhya Pradesh and was a member of 71 battalion which had been deployed for poll duty. (AGENCIES)
