Army soldier found dead

POONCH, May 7: Mystery shrouds the death of an Army soldier whose dead body was found lying near a nallah in Gohlad area of Mendhar this morning.
Identified as Sepoy, Ankush Sharma (23) of Ist JAKLI, son of Madan Lal Sharma, resident of  Gohlad, the soldier was in plain clothes and also carrying a towel and spare under-wear with him.  His unit was located in Hyderabad at present and he had come to his home on leave in connection with the marriage of  his sister.
A villager noticed the jawan lying unconscious near the nallah and informed his family members. The villagers of the area also rushed there after coming to know about the incident. They informed the matter to police and then shifted Ankush to Sub District Hospital, Mendhar where doctors declared him as dead.
The incident sent shock waves in the entire area and people of his village and relatives in large number rushed to hospital. The body was sent for postmortem. It was learnt that  deceased had  internal head injury on the back side which indicated that either he was attacked with some lethal weapon from back or  received injury on the back due to fall.
The Police party led by SHO examined the spot  and also dead body of the jawan. The BMO Mendhar  Dr Parvez Ahmed and other medicos said that it would be premature to say anything about the matter. The report has been sent to Forensic Lab in Jammu and things will be clear only after the final autopsy report is received from there. The police however, registered a case under Section 174 CrPC and launched inquest proceedings. The last rites of the Army soldier were performed in Mendhar this afternoon and a large number of people from all walks of life participated in the cremation. No Army officer or  JCO from the nearby units was seen in the funeral of the soldier.
