Army Service Corps celebrates Raising Day

Excelsior Correspondent
UDHAMPUR, Dec 8: The Army Service Corps celebrated its 255th Corps Day at the headquarters of  the Northern Command here today.
The Army Service Corps (ASC) is mainly responsible for provisioning, procurement and distribution of supplies and petroleum products to the Army, Air Force, Navy and other Para- Military forces.
Lt Gen DS Hooda, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, (Army Commander) Northern Command  complimented all ranks of the Army  Service Corps for their dedication, high degree of professionalism and flexibility in  performing their duties in difficult and inhospitable terrain conditions in the Northern theatre.
While the history of supply and transport services is as old as the history of organised warfare itself, it was in the year 1760 that the very rudimentary supply and transport organizations of the three Presidencies of the East India Company were brought under the council of a single authority. However, on Dec 8, 1950, the word ‘Royal’ was dropped and ever since the Corps celebrates its raising on this day.
The  Army  Commander called upon all ranks of ASC to work selflessly and rededicate themselves to uphold the ethos and spirit enshrined in the Corps motto.  He further extended his best wishes and warm greetings to all ranks and civilians of the Corps and their families and wished them a bright and successful future.
