Army restores land to civilians

JAMMU, June 23: Army today restored 21,000 square meters land at Morha Kamplan and 35,000 square meters at Sarya in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district to the civilians.
Brigadier Milan Mathur, Brigade Commander, Nowshera Brigade, handed over the land to civilians in the presence of large number of Army officials and local people.
The land was de-mined and declared fit for civilian use before being handed over to the civilians.
While land at Morha Kamplan belonged to Mohammad Ahmad, the land at Sarya belonged to multiple owners.
The 57 Engineering Regiment under Ace of Spades Division, Rajouri CO Col HS Billing said the land at Morha Kamplan was cleared of mine during 62 days long operation.
A total of 86 mines were defused at Morha Kamplan and 322 at Sarya under the command of Major APS Sidhu. The entire operation had been named as `Operation Aman’.
The people expressed their gratitude to the Army for clearing the land of mines and restoring it to them.
The land, falling close to the Line of Control (LoC) had been mined during `Operation Vijay’ (Kargil war) and `Operation Prakaram’ (mobilization of forces after Parliament attack).
