Army, police review security

SRINAGAR, July 17: The top brass of Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police today reviewed security in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district and emphasized on high level preparedness to tackle militant attacks.
The security review meeting was held in the District Police Lines, Kulgam in which future security strategy was chalked out. The meeting was attended by Lt Gen AK Bhatt, Chinar Corps Commander, Dr SP Vaid, Director General of Police, GOC Victor Force and IGP Kashmir.
The review meeting also focused on strengthening the existing synergy among Army, Police and other security agencies. The meeting deliberated upon the overall security situation and the plans to maintain a robust Counter militancy grid in the hinterland.
The meeting also discussed aspects of sharing of intelligence,  joint planning, situational awareness and flow of information. The local commanders briefed on the current situation on ground, challenges being faced and the measures to be instituted to enhance efficacy of the operations.
The Chinar Corps Commander emphasised on maintaining a high level of preparedness to deal with the militant attacks and highlighted on the combined efforts to effectively counter them.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the meeting, General Officer Commanding of Srinagar based 15 Corps, Lt General AK Bhatt said: “Our main purpose to meet today was to (discuss) tackling the militant recruitment in Kashmir.”
And in the meantime, Police recovered huge quantity of explosive and material used for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from Pulwama today.
Police launched searches in village Dangerpora Arihal and during  which huge quantity of explosive materials were recovered from the house of Bilal Ahmad Ganai. This included detonators, detonating material, connecting wires, electric chargers, batteries, mobile phones and remote control activating devices besides explosives.  “Some of the seized items are marked with symbols of Pakistan”, police said.
They also conducted searches in Naina Batapora during which a Chinese pistol, 7 live rounds of 9 mm, one magazine and 01 7.62 mm round were recovered from the possession of Sabzar Ahmad Mir, resident of Khellan.
Police registered cases and the accused persons were arrested for further investigation.
On a question on ongoing encounter near Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the GOC  said there was an infiltration attempt by militants in Kupwara but it was foiled by the Army.
“So far as LoC is concerned, an operation is going on. An infiltration attempt was foiled by Army. Now we are searching for the remaining militants in the area,” he said.
It may be mentioned here that a militant was killed in an encounter near Safawali Gali along LoC in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district yesterday after Army foiled an infiltration bid.
