SRINAGAR: The Army on Tuesday paid rich tribute to soldier who was martyred in an encounter with militants in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Monday.
Defence Ministry spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that Sepoy Vrahma Pal Singh, who attained martyrdom on Monday in an encounter at Aglar Kandi in Pulwama, was on Tuesday paid a befitting tribute by the Army.
Three militants, including a self-styled Divisional Commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad and nephew of JeM Pakistan based chief Moulana Masood Azhar — mastermind of Pathankote terror attack, were killed in a fierce encounter last night.
He said homage was paid to the martyred hero in a solemn wreath laying ceremony at Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar.
“General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 15 Corps Lt Gen JS Sandhu, laid wreaths on behalf of the Corps Commander and all ranks of the Corps,” he said, adding that tributes were also paid by officials from civil administration and other security agencies.
“Sep Singh, 30 years of age, had joined Army in 2004 and hailed from Village Shaujana Rani located in Bulandshahar district of Uttar Pradesh,” he said. “He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a three year old son,” the spokesperson said.
“The mortal remains of the martyr were flown for last rites to his native place, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours,” Col Kalia said. In this hour of grief, he said the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved family of the martyr and remains committed to their dignity and well-being. (AGENCIES)
