POONCH, Aug 23: The Poonch Army has yet again rendered a helping hand to the people of far flung population at the Line of Control as an Eye Camp cum Sadbhavana Mela was organized by Durga Battalion for the elderly population of border villages necessitating Cataract surgery and advance eye treatment.
The camp was organized at village Degwar, right near the Fence within two kilometers of the Actual Line of Control. This was attended by women and men of various age groups who had come from villages viz; Nakarket, Tuglu, Kirni, Kalas, Seklu and Mandi.
The Army doctors comprised of an Ophthalmologist, besides the Unit Medical Officer and various Civil Administration officials too attended the camp. The patients comprised of all age groups with the youngest being 15 years and the eldest being 90 years of age. This Eye Camp was organized with an aim to provide advanced treatment to needy people of border areas. Out of a total of 92 patients, 19 are requiring cataract surgery and advanced eye treatment, who were referred to General Hospital at Rajouri.
In addition, J & K Bank officials conducted a workshop on financial literacy and awareness on various Government schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana etc. Naeem Bhatti, Dist Social Welfare Officer Poonch explained the villagers on various Government sponsored schemes.
The attendees included the youth of local areas of Degwar Maldialan who were educated by the Durga Battalion about the Army Youth Employmernt Guidance Node (AYEGN), run under its aegis. Besides, an AADHAR Camp too was organized on the sidelines for the benefit of the people.
The event was inaugurated by the senior citizens of Border Area who themselves had come to seek treatment for their eye ailments. The same was organized in the presence of the Commanding Officer of Durga Battalion, Shambhu Nath Khajuria, Padamshree, Professor (Retd) Jagbir Singh and village Sarpanchs/ Panchs.
