Army officials of India, Pak celebrate Eid for second day

JAMMU, July 7: Army officials of India and Pakistan today exchanged sweets and gifts at two places on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr and celebrated the festival jointly with great pomp and show.
Official sources said the Army representatives of India and Pakistan exchanged sweets at Chakan-Da-Bagh cross-LoC point along Poonch-Rawlakote route and Mendhar Hot Spring crossing point in Krishna Ghati sector, both falling in Poonch district.
The Army officials of India and Pakistan were together at both the cross-LoC points for more than half an hour exchanging sweets and greetings and celebrating the festival together.
They discussed the peaceful situation prevailing along the LoC in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri and expressed commitment to maintain peace and tranquility on the LoC.
“The exchange of sweets by the Army officials of India and Pakistan is a testimony of goodwill from both the countries and is expected to go a long way in promoting harmony and bonhomie. It will certainly strengthen the efforts towards maintaining peace and tranquility along the Line of Control,’’ sources said.
They added that the meeting of Army officials at both the places ended in a good and cordial atmosphere.
Sources said the Eid festival was celebrated by the Army officials of India and Pakistan at Uri and Tangdhar on the Line of Control in the Kashmir valley yesterday. However, the Eid celebrations at LoC in Poonch district took place today between Army representatives of the two sides.
The Border Security Force (BSF) and Rangers had also met at seven places along the International Border in Jammu sector including Octroi in Suchetgarh, Chamliyal, Manihari, Kanachak, Allah Mai De Kothe (AMK), Manguchak and Nikowal posts in different sectors to celebrate Eid festival by exchanging sweets and greetings.
On the International Border also, the celebrations were held in very cordial atmosphere as there was calm on the borders with no major firing incident or infiltration attempt being reported from the borders for the past quite some time now.
