Army monitoring situation in Valley, infiltration up: Maj Gen Singh

SRINAGAR, Sept 5: Army today said that they are closely monitoring situation in Valley even as infiltration attempts from across the Line of Control (LoC) have increased this year.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) Kilo Force, Major General AK Singh told reporters in Batkoot, Handwara after inaugurating additional block of Army Goodwill School that Army is on high alert along the LoC to foil infiltration attempts.

Infiltration attempts from the last some months have increased but the soldiers are alert to fight such attempts and give a befitting reply to the attempts by Pakistan,” Major Gen Singh said.
The GOC said that security forces are ready to foil “terror activities” of militants.
“Militant organizations always look for opportunities of terrorism but all the security forces are ready to foil their terror activities,” he said.
The General said that there were 70 to 75 militants still active in Kilo Force jurisdiction (North Kashmir) and “most of the active militants were from foreign origin”.
On the purported stopping of using mobile phones by militants, the Army Commander said they have conducted several successful operations against militants even they were not using mobile phones.
“We have other methods to keep track of militants and we will use human and technical intelligence to track them. We have conducted several successful operations against militants even when they were not using mobile phones,” the GOC said.
The GOC said that security forces are conducting successful operations in Kashmir. “Yesterday, in Sopore we conducted a successful operation and killed a top commander of the militants,” he said.
On missing youth of Lolab where locals alleged that Army had picked him, Major General Singh said that Army has ordered probe and police is also conducting inquiry into the incident.
“As far as incident is concerned, we have ordered a probe and we will help police also in its enquiry. We also want to know where that individual is. Give a chance to enquiry and once it is done, only then we will come to know about the whereabouts of that individual”, the GOC said.
Major Gen Singh said that Army will fully cooperate in the investigation. “…but we are completely ready to cooperate with everyone in this regard”, he said.
