Army jawan shoots brother-in-law, arrested

JAMMU, Feb 5: Panic gripped in New Plot, when an Army jawan opened fire at his in-laws house.
An Army jawan of 10 JAK Li identified as Suresh Kumar, son of Titru Ram of Rajouri, posted at Badamibagh, Srinagar was arrested today for allegedly opening fire at his in-laws house at Jawahar Nagar, New Plot, falling under the jurisdiction of Bakshi Nagar Police Station, a senior police official said.
The accused reached his in-laws house this morning and asked to have interaction with his wife, he said, adding that the couple went to the room and bolted the door and in the meantime the accused triggered gun on his wife. When she raised alarm, her brothers broke open the door and the accused in a hosh-posh opened fire at him and flee from the spot.
“Balbir Singh, son of Ram Lal received bullet injury in his right shoulder and was shifted to Sarwal hospital. He was later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where his condition was stated to be stable, when last reports poured in, spokesman added.
On getting information, police party from Sarwal Police Post rushed to the spot and arrested the accused from nearby locality and the weapon used in the offence was also recovered from his possession, he said.
The accused had some dispute with his wife, who was living with her parents, spokesman said, adding that a court case was also in progress in this context.
A case under Section 307 RPC and Arms Act has been registered at Bakshi Nagar Police Station while the investigations are in progress.
Police party led by SI Neelam Saini made the arrest under the supervision of SHO Ravi Kant, DySP Manik Raj and SP North JS Johar.
