JAMMU, Dec 9: Army along with “Gift of Life”, an NGO, facilitated heart surgery of Wasim Akram, a young boy of six years, resident of Bachianwali, Tehsil Surankote of Poonch District.
Army initially coordinated the preliminary medical tests like echo-cardiography and pathology. Once the diagnosis was confirmed, the Army facilitated liaison with “Gift of Life”, NGO, which look on the responsibility for bearing the expenditure of expensive heart surgery.
Wasim’s visit to Delhi for treatment along with his father was facilitated by the Army through liaison and co-ordination with the NGO representatives and the hospital on October 17, 2016. He was admitted to Max Super-Specialty Hospital, New Delhi and was operated upon by Dr Dinesh Kumar Mani, a renowned Pediatrics heart surgeon.
Wasim has reached home healthy and safe, to the cheers and immense joy of his parents and villagers, who have expressed appreciation of Army’s effort in providing the child a new lease of life.
