SRINAGAR, July 18: Army today foiled an infiltration bid by a group of heavily armed militants along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
A senior Army officer told Excelsior that a group of 7-8 militants tried to sneak in Baktoor area of Gurez at around 3 a.m. today. He said that the alert troops deployed at the forward posts beyond fence challenged them and they opened fire. The troops returned the fire and the militants fled back to the Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The Army officer said that the Army continued to fire till 8 a.m. and conducted massive searches of the area but so far nothing was recovered. “The search operation is still going on”, he added.
This is the third infiltration bid that was foiled by the troops along the LoC in North Kashmir this year.
Last week Army foiled an infiltration attempt in Macchil sector of Kupwara when a group of around 7-8 militants had crossed the LoC fence. The group was intercepted and they fled back leaving behind rucksacks.
