Mines explode, one terrorist believed killed

JAMMU, June 15: Alert troops of the Army foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district while searches are underway after suspicious movement was detected in Poonch district.

Reports said that alert troops noticed some suspicious movement on the LoC in the Baratgala area of Keri sector in Rajouri district.
“After noticing suspicious movement along the LoC, alert troops fired shots at suspected intruders, who were forced to withdraw back into the Pakistani side of the LoC. Subsequently, searches have been started to sanitise the area along the LoC,” the officials said.
Sources said an attempt was made by at least four terrorists to infiltrate into the Indian territory from Keri sector. In retaliatory firing by the Indian Army, the terrorists tried to escape during which some mines also exploded leading to blasts.
Unconfirmed reports said one terrorist was killed in the blasts while other retreated towards Pakistan.
However, there was no official confirmation of the incident.
In another anti-terrorist operation, security forces launched searches along the LoC in Poonch district after locals reported seeing some suspicious movement in the area, the sources said.
The security forces have been aggressively carrying out operations against terrorists, Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and their sympathizers.
Security forces have been maintaining high alert all along the LoC in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri to thwart infiltration attempts by the terrorists from Pakistan side aided and abetted by Pakistani troops.
However, all attempts by the terrorists to infiltrate from the LoC have been thwarted, the sources said.
Terrorists from Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were trying to infiltrate to carry out terror attacks but haven’t succeeded, they added.
Earlier also this year, the troops have thwarted several infiltration attempts by the terrorists on the LoC in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, killing and wounding some of them while others fled back.
