Terrorist killed, another injured

JAMMU, June 24: Army troops opened fire after noticing suspicious movement in a forward area near the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district, while security forces conducted searches at more than a dozen places in Poonch, Samba and Kathua districts today.
The suspicious movement of three to four people under the cover of thick foliage was detected by alert soldiers in Barat Gala area of Keri sector in Rajouri this morning.
The troops fired over two dozen rounds and simultaneously launched a search operation, and also deployed drones. However, there was no trace of the suspected people, the officials said.

Reports, however, said that security forces have successfully thwarted infiltration attempts by the terrorists in Keri sector.
While fleeing back to Pakistan, at least one terrorist appeared to have been killed while his colleague was injured.
Few days back also, Army foiled infiltration bid by the terrorists in Keri sector of Rajouri.
Sources said Pakistan army has repeatedly been trying to push trained terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir from the LoC in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch but their plots have been foiled.
In the previous attempt also, one terrorist was reported to have been killed as mines exploded when he was trying to retreat. His associates had, however, managed to escape back to Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the sources said, the Special Operations Group of local police, CRPF and Rashtriya Rifles also launched search operations in different areas of Surankote and Mendhar in Poonch district at around 6 am following information about suspicious movement.
The operation was conducted in Sari, Ustan, Pathankot, Lohar Mohalla, Chandimarh, Phagal, Hari top and Kaagwali in Surankote, Limba, and Ucchad and Kallar-Gursai in Mendhar, but no one was arrested, the officials said.
They said police assisted by paramilitary forces also carried out searches at Bein Nullah, Charu Muthi and Chak Dhulma and Tarnah and Chakra villages near the International Border in Kathua district.
