NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Arun Jaitley today said Army was fully alert to any security challenge on the Line of Control (LoC) and dominating the border with Pakistan.
Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha during Question Hour, Mr Jaitley said safeguarding the border was a continuous process and all required modern equipment had been installed to check infiltration from across the border.
”The Government is taking measures to ensure modernisation of Indian Defence Forces to keep them in a state of readiness to meet operational and security challenges.”
It was because of the increasing border vigilance and modernised surveillance that the Army had been able to foil several attempts at infiltration in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, he said, adding that the Army had constructed an anti-infiltration Obstacle System along the LoC and the International Border.
He said there were 285 attempts at infiltration by Pakistan this year so far, and 221 ceasefire violations on the border under Army, and 221 violations under the border area under BSF last year in which eight Indian soldiers lost their lives. (AGENCIES)
