Army to develop border villages

JAMMU, May 3: A senior Army Commander today said the Army is committed to ensuring overall development of the areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in together with the civil administration.
“Army is committed to ensure overall development of villages along the LoC through joint initiatives undertaken with civil administration since December 2015,” Brigadier H S Sahi, Commander, Bhimber Gali Brigade, said.
He was speaking at a function organized by the Army to dedicate two community centers to border village of Balakote in Poonch district.
Brigadier Sahi said a number of projects including check dams for irrigation, polyhouses for growing vegetables, vermicompost units, construction of roads and tracks have already been started in the area by the Army with active support of the civil administration.
On the occasion, the Army also distributed over 100 energy efficient biomass stoves and promised to install 100 solar lights in the area.
Earlier, as part of initiatives undertaken by Army for overall development of villages located close to the Line of Control in Balakote sector, the Commander Bhimber Gali Brigade dedicated two Community Centers constructed under the Sadbhavna initiative in border villages of Chhapardhara and Bharuti.
The state of the art community centers have fulfilled the demand of villagers to host central social and religious functions.
Shafat Sultan, Director Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency was also present on the occasion and as part of joint initiatives with Indian Army, distributed over 100 Energy Efficient Bio-Mass Stoves to the needy villagers.
In addition, Director JAKEDA announced that over 100 Solar Lights will also be provided to the residents in the coming weeks.
