Excelsior Correspondent
LEH, Aug 6: The Army in less than a day’s effort constructed a 80 feet bailey bridge across the Indus river tributary near Shey village.
The bridge was opened for the use of the local villagers and population today. Prompt actions by the Army has ensured re-establishment of road connectivity to almost 12,000 villagers and facilitated their accessibility for paying obeisance to Dalai Lama’ during his forthcoming visit.
The permanent bridge existing on this tributary was washed away earlier this year resulting in loss of road connectivity to almost twelve villages across the tributary.
In view of the visit of Dalai Lama’, the civil administration requested General Officer Commanding ‘Fire & Fury’ Corps for assistance in construction of the bridge. `Sada Vijay Engineer Regiment’ of the Army was entrusted with the work and they successfully constructed the 80 feet bailey bridge in record time. Efforts of the Army have been greatly appreciated by the locals and the civil administration.
