SRINAGAR, May 2: Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), General Bipin Rawat, today visited the forward areas in North Kashmir and assessed situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and preparedness of troops to foil infiltration of militants into Kashmir.
Accompanied by Northern Army Lt General D Anbu and Chinar Corps Commanders, Lt General JS Sandhu, the Army chief was briefed by Sector Commanders on the security situation along the LoC.
The Army chief was briefed about the designs of militants, who are waiting on the launch pads along the LoC in North Kashmir in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). He was told that around 200 militants are waiting on these launch pads and Army is keeping a vigil on their activities near the LoC.
The Sector Commanders briefed him about the increased activities across the LoC and told him that they are alert to foil such enemy designs. He was briefed about the measures instituted to strengthen the security posture overall operational and logistical preparedness along the LoC.
General Rawat was given a detailed account of the infiltration grid and new measures taken this year to further strengthen it. He was also briefed about the measures taken to plough the possible infiltration routes of the militants.
The Army chief impressed upon all to remain vigilant and thwart any misadventure from across especially at the time when summer is round the corner and there will be increased infiltration attempts. He told the Commanders that the enemy will try to capitalize on the street protests in Kashmir and send in more infiltrators.
The CoAS directed the troops to intensify the vigil along the LoC and in the forest areas so that the infiltrators are tackled right on the LoC or in the forest areas adjacent.
During his interaction with troops, the General reassured them that the entire nation stood behind its soldiers in their brave endeavours to safeguard country’s sovereignty and integrity and maintain peace in the Valley.
Later, the Army Chief left for Delhi. However, Northern chief has stayed back and will hold further discussion with the local Commanders about the situation along the LoC and hinterland and the measures taken to deal with it.
