Army Chief instructs Commanders to keep close watch in J&K

NEW DELHI : Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag today asked his Army commanders to continuously asses the security situation with changing dynamics in the region and maintain relentless pressure in Jammu and Kashmir to foil any possible design of terrorist elements to interrupt the coming Assembly polls in the state.
In his concluding address, edited portions of which were released to the media, the Army Chief advised top commanders to continuously assess the situation in the sub-continent with respect to the force and security transition taking place and its concomitant effect on the Nation’s security.    Gen Suhag was apparently hinting towards, Afghanistan from where US-led forces were scheduled to return in phases in the coming months.
Talking about the internal security situation, he said, “we need to maintain relentless pressure in Jammu and Kashmir so that the terrorists could not carry out any meaningful operations to interrupt the coming elections.”
The tenure of J&K Assembly is to expire on January 19 next year and the elections were to be held on or before this date.     All members of Election Commission visited the flood-hit state today to assess the situation there. The Commission is likely to announce the poll dates soon after its return.  (AGENCIES)
