SRINAGAR: Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Friday arrived in Srinagar on a two-day visit and reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and along the Line of Control (LoC).
An Army official told UNI that General Rawat, who was in Ladakh on Thursday along with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, arrived here on Friday morning on a two-day visit to J&K. “The Army chief was briefed about overall security situation in the valley,” he said.
He said General Rawat also reviewed security preparedness along the LoC with Pakistan, which has increased aggression along the border since the special status of J&K was scrapped.
He said the Army Chief is also expected to meet Governor Satya Pal Malik. “General Rawat will also meet officials of different security agencies to tackle the situation in the valley,” the Army official added.
This is the first visit of the Army Chief to J&K since Article 370 and Article 35 A were scrapped and the state was bifurcated into two Union Territories on August 5.
