Army acts as ‘midwife’; saves baby

NEW DELHI, Sept 10:
It was a mission that the Indian Army had never planned but conducted and completed successfully with a heart warming news — ‘it’s a boy.’
With thousands of distress calls received by the Army from various parts of Kashmir valley, this was the one from Pampore locality on the outskirts of Srinagar. Pampore was also completely submerged like any other part of the flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir.
A lady was experiencing labour pains and crying but  there was no one to help. Immediately after getting the SOS, the Army Aviation team swung intoaction and a mission ‘Save Kashmiri baby’ was quickly put in place.
Rescue boats were dispatched to the locality from where the 24-year old expecting mother Arshida was to be evacuated.
After Army jawans brought her to a safer place, she was airlifted to Badami Bagh Cantt by a chopper.     Finally, she was admitted to the Base Hospital in Srinagar where she delivered the baby boy.
According to the news available here at the Army headquarters, both mother and the newly-born Kashmiri baby were healthy and the mother was recuperating in the ICU of the military hospital.  (UNI)
