SRINAGAR, Apr 5: Army today continued its search against the militants who fled from an operation in Tangmarg area of North Kashmir after killing two security forces personnel and injuring three others including a civilian earlier this week.
They recovered arms and ammunition from a militant hide out in the Pattan area where they conducted searches today after a specific input.
A Defence spokesman said that based on a specific input, a search operation of Army was launched today in general area of Sheikhpura village in Pattan area leading to recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
The spokesman said that acting on a specific input from unit source of a hideout with large quantity of war like stores, a Rashtriya Rifle unit of the area, immediately launched a search operation in Sheikhpura village in Pattan area.
“Concerted search of the area was carried out. At around 12.30 PM, a hideout was unveiled in the apple orchid resulting in recovery of one AK 47 rifle , 7 AK 47 rifle magazines, 100 rounds of AK-47, 1 Chinese pistol, 1 radio set, 3 remote control IEDs, 5 UBGL grenades and four Chinese grenades”, the spokesman said.
Security forces for last few days conduced massive searches in Tangmarg and Pattan areas of Baramulla district to track down a group of militants who were responsible for the killing of an Army man and cop in Hardshoora Sultanpora at Kunzar in Baramulla district.
Army, police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off several villages including Zeran, Lawapora, Batpora, Tangmanrg Gaadiya, Palhalan and Goshbugh in search of Fayaz Ahmad Wailu of Tangmarg area and Ishaq Ahmad of Palhalan area of Pattan in district Baramulla and their another accomplice who is a Paksitani militant.
A senior Army officer told Excelsior that Army exercised restrain in Hardshoora Sultanpora in Kunzar when their party was fired by the militants even after the security forces suffered two fatal and two non-fatal casualties in the operation.
The officer said that the Army could have killed all the three militants in the village but it may have led to civilian casualties. He said that the Army’s restrain led to the fleeing of the militants. He said that Army is conducting the search operations in the area to eliminate the group.
