RAJOURI, May 10: Troops of 49 Rashtriya Rifles under the aegis of Romeo Force and Mendhar Police today destroyed a major hideout of the militants and recovered large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives from village Berni in Balakote sector in Poonch district.
Official sources said a joint team of Army and police conducted searches in Berni forests of Balakote and unearthed a hideout of the militants inside the cave, where the consignment of arms, ammunition and explosives had been dumped.
Recoveries made from the hideout included one AK Machine Gun, 12 grenades, 12 detonators, one RPG head, three radio sets, two pistols, three mobile headsets, 149 UBGL rounds, belt of Machine Gun and stick explosives.
Army and police conducted searches in the area after the recoveries but no arrests were made from the spot. Police party in the operation was led by SDPO Mendhar Shahid Naheem.
