Arjun Dev Charan, vice chairman National School of Drama and an eminent Rajasthani poet, playwright and critic and theatre director, who has done his doctoral research on Rajasthani folk performing arts, in his candid speech said that media has distorted the word manoranjan as mere entertainment. He said the word manoranjan which literarily means man ka ranjan has lost its charm as it is being equated with the feeling of farce.
He said the main goal of Rangmanch is Ananda, which pleases the soul of the spectator. Referring to Bharata Muni’s Natya Shashtra and the concept of Rasa as the ultimate goal of a dramatic performance, he said if a dramatic performance is able to generate a feeling of contentment then only it is considered as successful.
Bringing out an interesting similarity in Rajasthani and Dogri languages in terms of the usage of the words, he referred to Dogri word Rajjna and its counterpart in Rajasthani Ranjja-both mean contentment.
Saying that as the other word for spectator or darshak is Samajika, it is imperative that plays should also be relevant to the society or the Samaj.
Prominent among the audience were Scretary Cultural Acadmy, Aziz Hazani, Additional Scterary, Arvinder Aman, Balwant Thakur, Deepak Kumar, Bhavani Bashir, Mushtaq Ali and number of young actors from local theatre groups.
