This has reference to the news item ‘Apricot Day-cum Exhibition held at Kargil’ DE Aug 29.
Kargil can emerge a leading producer of apricots in Ladakh division provided this sector is paid attention it deserves.
The Apricot Industry can flourish here as there is enough raw material available. But due to various factors this industry has not taken off yet in this part of the world.
To start a plant in the area, it is necessary that adequate and un- interrupted power supply is available. Kargil is grappling with power shortage, and by the time the under construction power house (Chatook) is ready, the people here have to wait. The industry can generate sources of income for people involved in apricot production.
The administration should have a blue print for the industry ready by the time power project becomes operational.
