JAMMU, Sept 17: Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF)–a specialized unit of Jammu and Kashmir Police to check rising menace of drugs, achieved another success after it foiled a bid to smuggle cannabis worth lakhs of rupees.
According to SP ANTF Vinay Sharma, specific information was received that a large quantity of cannabis concealed in the cabin of a truck bearing registration number JK15A-5238 is being smuggled from Kashmir to outside the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Acting over the information, a case FIR Number 11/2021 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station ANTF Jammu, SP said, adding that a team of ANTF immediately swung into action and laid a check point near Greater Kailash Chowk and intercepted the said truck.
SP Vinay Sharma said that during search of the cabin of the truck, ANTF team recovered 24.204 kilograms of cannabis and arrested the truck driver-cum-inter-state drug peddler, who was identified as Mohammad Ashraf Wani, son of Abdul Khaliq Wani of Wachi District Shopian.
The truck has been seized, SP said, adding that initial investigation has revealed that this consignment was been smuggled from Jammu and Kashmir to Rajasthan.
“Anti Narcotics Task Force is investigating further links of this inter-state drug cartel and more arrests are expected”, SP asserted.
He appealed to the general public to share information regarding such drug dealers so that appropriate legal actions are taken against them and this menace is uprooted from the society.
