Another shopkeeper killed by gunmen in north Kashmir

SRINAGAR :  Unidentified gunmen today killed yet another shopkeeper in apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir, where two people have already been killed in the  past week. Official sources said unidentified gunmen fired from a very close range at shopkeeper Mehrajuddin Dar at Badambagh at 0900 hrs in Sopore, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir district of Barmulla.
However, he was immediately rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead, they said adding that the gunmen later managed to escape from the area.
This was the third killing by unidentified gunmen during less than a week in Sopore, hometown of hardline Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who had alleged that intelligence agencies were involved in these killings.
One of the deceased Altaf ur-Rehman Sheikh was an activist of Tehree-e-Hurriyat, a constituent of Hurriyat, also headed by Geelani. The killing took place a day after Core Group Kashmir (CGK) representing different security and intelligence agencies held a meeting at headquarters of 15 Corps to take measures to stop killing and attacks on cellular companies in Sopore.
The ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded immediate end to killings by unidentified gunmen in Sopore. However, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has allegedly tried to link the spate of terror attacks in Sopore area with Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s alleged remark about revival of ‘Ikhwanis’, an outfit of surrendered militants working with security forces.
