JAMMU, June 13: Another Jammu University officer and his family had a narrow escape when a portion of ceiling on staircase in front of JU Security Officer’s official residence at the new campus, collapsed , last evening.
Plaster from a big portion of ceiling fell on stairs causing a panic among the inhabitants, who rushed to see if there was any major damage. Fortunately, no one was near the stairs and hence there was no tragedy, sources said.
This was the second such incident in the last one week as a portion of ceiling of the gallery in front residential quarters of a JU Assistant Professor had collapsed on June 7 at the old campus.
The repeated incidents of ceiling collapse have triggered panic among a section of JU officers and faculty members, using official accommodation for residential purpose on the campus.
Some JU officials, on the condition of anonymity, told the Excelsior that a number of residential quarters were in shabby condition and not repaired by the JU Works Department despite repeated pleas for the same.
