JAMMU, July 16: In second fratricidal incident in Jammu region in last two days, an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) jawan today fired at his three colleagues causing them serious injuries before killing himself at his Company Centre at Devika Temple in Udhampur district.
The Company was deployed at temporary camp for Shri Amarnath yatra duty in Udhampur.
SSP Udhampur Dr Vinod Kumar said investigations have been launched in case and exact reason behind provocation is yet to be ascertained.
However, there were reports that verbal duel took place among the colleagues after which constable Bhupendra Singh, hailing from Uttarakhand, fired at his three colleagues with service weapon and later shot himself.
Bhupendra Singh died on the spot.
The incident took place at 3.30 pm today.
The ITBP personnel and police teams from Udhampur Police Station rushed to the spot and the injured were rushed to the Military Hospital Udhampur where they were responding to the treatment.

Senior police officials from Udhampur visited the spot for investigations. Dead and injured ITBP personnel belonged to the 8th battalion of the force and were presently deputed to the `F’ company of the 2nd adhoc battalion of the ITBP deployed in Jammu and Kashmir for security duties.
A number of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel have been deployed in Jammu and Kashmir for ongoing annual pilgrimage of Shri Amarnath Ji shrine. The ITBP personnel were also part of the yatra duty.
Initially, as per the sources, there was an alarm in the temporary ITBP camp after one of the jawans opened firing. However, they soon realized that it was not an attack but a jawan had opened firing. Before his colleagues could overpower the jawan, he shot himself also.
This was the second such incident in Jammu region.
Only yesterday, two Army soldiers were killed and two others were injured in their camp at Surankote. In this case also, one of the jawans had opened firing on three colleagues, killing one and injuring two. Later, he shot himself dead. A Court of Inquiry in this case also had already been ordered by the Army.
