JAMMU, June 7: Another eye donation from the Jain Community in Jammu has given gift of vision to two blind persons.
The family of late Ravinder Jain of Talab Tillo who expired today morning contacted SOTTO J&K for eye donation, which in turn coordinated with the GMC Eye bank for retrieval for gift of sight to two blind persons. It is pertinent to mention that this was 11th eye donation from Jain community.
Department of Ophthalmology at GMC Jammu successfully conducted two corneal transplantations today, marking a significant milestone in the field of vision restoration. Under the expert supervision of Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean of GMC Jammu, the surgeries have enabled two individuals to regain their sight.
Dr Ashok Sharma, Professor and Head of Ophthalmology, led the surgical team, providing the gift of vision to two visually impaired patients. The recipients, a 61-year-old female and a 55-year-old another female, can now look forward to improved quality of life, thanks to this groundbreaking procedure.
The successful surgeries were made possible by the dedicated efforts of Dr Neharika Verma and Dr Tapan Sharma, both postgraduates, along with the invaluable assistance of eye OT staff members Kamlesh Kumari (I/c OT), Kamlesh Kumari, Ajay Sharma and Sandeep Singh.
Furthermore, the timely retrieval, transportation, storage and transplantation of the deceased donor’s eye were accomplished through the collaborative efforts of Dr Nancy Sharma, Dr Nalini Birpuri, Dr Manpreet Kour, Rifat (SSN) and Akarshan (MTS) under the supervision of Dr Hans Raj Sharma (Professor & Managing Director Eye Bank) and Dr Vijayta Gupta (Transplant Coordinator).
