JAMMU, May 13: In a bid to infiltrate more militants, Pakistani troops continued violation of ceasefire along Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district by targeting Indian posts for seventh time in 18 days.
“Pakistani troops resorted to firing from small arms on four Indian posts along the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district from 9.40 pm last night,” official sources said.
Troops guarding the border fired back resulting in intermittent exchanges of fire, they said, adding, “firing exchanges continued for a brief period”
There was no death, injury or damage to anyone on this side of the LoC due to the firing, Army spokesman Col Manish Mehta said.
This is the seventh incident of ceasefire violation in the past 18 days along the LoC.
Sources said the ceasefire violations and firing by Pakistan was aimed to infiltrate more militants into Jammu and Kashmir from across the border.
There had been two infiltration bids along LoC in Poonch district in the last one week. On May 10, two militants were killed when Army troops foiled an infiltration bid along LoC in Kalsan belt in Bigial Dara sector of Poonch district.
On May 3, troops foiled an infiltration bid along LoC in Sabjian belt of Poonch district.
There are also inputs that bids to engineer BAT (Border Action Team) attacks on forward posts and patrolling parties is being planned from across the border, sources said.
