Another bid to smuggle bovine animals foiled at Lakhanpur

JAMMU, July 1: Continuing with the drive against smugglers, a joint team of the officials of Toll Post Lakhanpur and Lakhanpur police foiled a major smuggling bid and seized a vehicle carrying 14 numbers of bovine animals.
Police said a vehicle bearing Registration No JK02AE-4925 while trying to enter into the State at around 4.46 AM today was intercepted by the vigilant staff at Toll Post, Lakhanpur. The offending vehicle was subjected to physical check when reported at the Toll Post for clearance. As per the documents, the vehicle was declared carrying “fresh fruit” vide GR No.231 dated 30-06-2019 issued by M/s Sagar Goods Carrier, Kapurthala, Punjab and destined to Jammu.
However, on physical checking the vehicle was found carrying 14 numbers of bovine animals. The ever vigilant staff of the Toll Post Lakhanpur in harmonious co-ordination with Police Department Lakhanpur seized the vehicle and saved 14 numbers of bovine animals on spot.
The operation was conducted by the joint team headed by Excise & Taxation Officers Sajjad Sofi, SHO Police Station Lakhanpur, Rajesh Sharma along with Excise Inspectors Javaid, Dheeraj Kumar, Sub-Inspector, Aaqib Malik and the brave efforts of. Rajinder Pal Sub-Inspector and the team of Police Station Lakhanpur under the direct supervision of Ashish Gupta, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur.
M. Raju, Excise Commissioner, Srinagar while lauding the efforts of Excise team of Toll Post Lakhanpur for its sustained enforcement efforts in the area, has enjoined upon them to carry on such drives to thwart the nefarious design of smugglers in future also.
