JAMMU, July 1: Animal Rights activist, Rumpy Madaan has claimed to expose money meant for animal care and demanded investigation into wrong doings of Jammu Municipality.
Addressing a press conference, Madaan along with his supporters produced several documents that revealed mal-practices and favouritism in Jammu Municipality. She said that some tainted persons in JMC, by mis-using their official position hired a person for JMC for animal care, who following several complaints was sacked by concerned authorities in Chandigarh, earlier.
Rumpy , (Animal Welfare Officer for AWBI (Animal Welfare Board of India under Ministry of Environment and Forests & Climate Change, (MOEF&CC) said that the department has failed to take corrective measures as set by Supreme Court of India.
She said that JMC has been dislocating the sterilised dogs in wrong localities thus putting life of the people in danger. She also underlined the need for having State Animals Welfare Board (SAWB) and District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Jammu and Kashmir.

She further said that the Central Government has notified the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (establishment and regulation of Societies for prevention of Cruelty to animals). Unfortunately till date, neither the animals Welfare Board is functional in the State nor any district SPCA is registered with the Registrar of Societies.
She said that if the animals brought for slaughter are cared during transportation as per rules, slaughtered as per SC’s guidelines and FSSCAI, the meat available to the people for consumption will be safe, free from parasitic infections, liver disease, gangrene etc.
