Anganwari workers hold protest in support of demands

RAMBAN, May 6: Anganwadi workers and helpers today held a protest demonstration here at Dak Bungalow in support of their demands.
Addressing the protesting Anganwadi workers and helpers, State president of National Trade Union Front, Mohammed Gafoor Dar, asked the protesters to get united to redress their long pending issues.
The protesters resented the non-payment of honorarium to all Anganwadi Workers and Helpers of J&K for past about 9 to 10 months, non-formulation of recruitment rules and promotion policy, pick and choose policy in promotion and intentional harassment of Anganawadi Workers’ Union leaders by the officers of the concerned department.
They demanded the enhancement of their honorarium equal to that being given in Haryana and Punjab. Later, some leaders of Anganwadi workers submitted a memorandum to the District Development Commissioner, Ramban, Mohammed Aijaz.
The union threatened of intensifying the agitation and coming on the road if their demands are not met immediately.
President, Ramban District Anganwadi Workers’ Union, Irshad Begum, general secretary, Swarna Devi, secretary, Lalita Devi, Chanchla Devi and Sharda Devi were among the prominent women leaders present on the occasion.
