JAMMU, Nov 9: Anganwari workers and helpers today held a sit-in protest under the banner of J&K National Trade Union Front (JKNTUF) in front of office of the Divisional Commissioner Jammu here at Panama Chowk to press for their demands.
Hundreds of Anganwari workers and helpers from different ICDS projects of Jammu province participated in the protest demonstration and raised voice against the delaying policies of higher authorities of the department, who they said, have miserably failed even to frame the new recruitment rules after separation of ICDS from Social Welfare Depar-tment, due to which all promotion avenues of Supervisors, workers and helpers are withheld.
While addressing the protesting workers, Mohd Gafoor Dar, State president, JKNTUF, condemned the callous attitude of the State Government, particularly ICDS authorities, for their failure to settle the burning demands of the Anganwari workers and helpers.
He said that ICDS authorities should not test the patience of the workers and helpers, who are suffering for months together for their due honorarium while they (authorities) are just acting as silent spectators.
Dar said if the workers and helpers’ demands, which include release of pending honorarium of six months, enhancement of honorarium of workers (minimum Rs 10,000 for worker and Rs 6000 for helper), withdrawal of termination order of Anganwari workers and helpers, framing of new recruitment rules of ICDS Mission and finalizing of their seniority list, provision of stationary, MPR sheets, training and travelling allowances to workers and helpers, and payment of incentive for extra works like election duty, are not addressed properly, then they will be left with no option other than launching a State wide agitation during Assembly Session in Jammu.
