JAMMU, Oct 22: Anganwadi workers and helpers of the ICDS projects of the Social Welfare Department are without pay for the last eleven (11) months.
In an emergency meeting of the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union, Jammu Division held here today under the leadership of Suman Suri (president), the members expressed serious concern over the attitude of the higher authorities in the Social Welfare Department. They alleged that respective Project Officers/ District officers of the ICDS have failed to release the hard earned wages of the employees who are running centres regularly and performing their duty. They also demanded release of arrears of the increased state share of their wages.
They pointed out that Diwali is on October 27 and without salaries, the employees will not be able to celebrate the festival. They are facing starvation. They sought intervention of Governor and the Chief Secretary into the matter. They alleged that instead of paying their wages regularly, the officers have adopted the attitude of harassing the workers.
The condition of the ICDS centres has gone from bad to worse due to negative attitude of the authorities. The Govt has now hell bent upon the exploitation of the workers and forcing them to work without wages. This is clear violation of Human Rights. The CDPOs, Project Officers and even Mission Director, avoid to meet when any deputation of employees approaches them, they alleged.
Union, vice president Mehajbeen, general secretary Nirmal Kumari and others also spoke on the occasion.
