Anantnag, May 19: Continuing its sustained crackdown against drug trafficking and narcotics abuse in the district, Anantnag Police on Monday achieved significant success in multiple anti-drug operations carried out in Sangam and Aishmuqam areas, registering three FIRs and arresting two accused involved in narcotics-related activities.
According to police officials, acting on a specific input, a police team from Police Post Sangam conducted a raid at the residence of one Manzoor Ahmad Shah, son of Late Abdul Rehman Shah, a resident of Ikhrajpora Marhama. During the search operation, police recovered approximately 3.340 kilograms of charas powder-like contraband substance from the residential premises.
However, the accused was reportedly absconding at the time of the raid, and efforts have been launched to trace and arrest him. In this connection, Police Station concerned has registered FIR No. 131/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act and initiated further investigation.
In another operation, a police party from Police Station Aishmuqam during routine naka checking at Magrey Mohalla intercepted a suspicious individual coming from Ainoo towards Aishmuqam. On noticing the police presence, the suspect attempted to flee from the spot but was apprehended by the naka party.
During his personal search, police recovered nearly 17 grams of heroin-like substance concealed in an orange-coloured polythene bag carried by him. The accused was identified as Mudasir Ahmad Gilkar alias Uzain, son of Nisar Ahmad Gilkar, a resident of Magrey Mohalla Aishmuqam.
Police said a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered and investigation taken up.
Meanwhile, in a separate naka checking operation conducted at Rangkadal Aishmuqam, another suspicious person travelling from Jamooh towards Aishmuqam attempted to evade the police party after spotting the naka checking team.
The suspect was apprehended and during search operations, police recovered approximately 13 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession. During preliminary questioning, he identified himself as Mehraj-u-Din Bala alias Pintu Bala, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bala, a resident of Peer Mohalla Aishmuqam.
Police have registered another case under relevant provisions of law and initiated investigation into the matter.
Anantnag Police reiterated its commitment towards maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information related to drug peddlers and illegal narcotics activities in their respective areas. (KNC)
