KOLKATA, Oct 29: Spinning web around the rival batters, right-arm leg-spinner Ananaya Sharma scalped 5 important wickets, while skipper Sandhya Sayal once again bowled with utmost discipline and the duo of Bushra Ashraf and Nadia Chowdhary salvaged the sinking ship as J&K thrashed Arunachal Pradesh by a big margin of 95 runs in their Plate Group Round II match of the BCCI’s Senior Women One Day Tournament at 22 Yards, Salt Lake, here today.
Earlier, J&K skipper Sandhya Sayal won the toss and elected to bat first.
Batting first, J&K lost early wickets and were tottering at 46/6 in 14.2 overs, with almost all the top and middle-order batters back to the pavilion. However, dependable Bushra Ashraf and gritty all-rounder Nadia Chowdhary salvaged the sinking ship by making a magnificent partnership of 60 runs to take the score to 106 runs, before Bushra was dismissed at her individual score of 31 runs off 87 balls. Nadia sent the bowlers on a leather-hunt, while Bushra applied to perfection and played sensibly.
Nadia continued her brilliance and scored splendid 51 runs to help her team put a decent score of 140 runs on the board. None of the other players could manage to cross the double figure mark. Sheerazah and Sandhya contributed 7 runs each. For Arunachal Pradesh, Runs, S Ligo and B Ritu took 2 wickets each, while Nabam Yapu and Shivi Yadav claimed 1 wicket each.
In reply, Arunachal Pradesh bundled out for 45 runs in 25 overs, thus lost the match by a huge margin of 95 runs. Shivi Yadav (16) and Runa Sarkar (9) were the main contributors.
Almost all the J&K bowlers were on target, hitting good areas and bowling with superb line and length. Ananaya was the wrecker-in-chief, who took 5 important wickets by conceding 13 runs in her 6 overs, while Sandhya was once again economical, who bowled 8 overs and took 2 important wickets and conceded just 4 runs, while Bismah Hassan once again missed the hat-trick and took two wickets on two consecutive deliveries. Skipper Sandhya Sayal along with her deputy Bushra Ashraf led from the front in the middle and executed the plans brilliantly.
J&K will face Nagaland in their next outing on October 31 at JU Second Campus, Salt Lake, Kolkata.
In the other two matches of the Plate Group today, Bihar outplayed Manipur and Meghalaya got the better of Sikkim at JU Second Campus, Salt Lake, Kolkata and Eden Gardens, Kolkata respectively.
